FSN is assisting in the hiring process for an English-language multimedia news outlet in the South Caucasus region looking for a Digital Deputy Editor in Chief.

Brief Job Overview: The Digital Deputy Editor-in-Chief will report to the Editor-in-Chief (EiC) and will assist the First Deputy Editor-in-Chief (FDEiC) in overseeing the website and social media operations. This role involves managing editorial staff, ensuring the quality and consistency of digital content, to drive audience growth across various platforms. The Digital Deputy Editor-in-Chief will play a key role in shaping the digital editorial vision and executing the content strategy.

Roles and Responsibilities:

– Assist FDEiC in implementing the editorial direction and strategy for digital content, set by the EiC.
– Supervise and mentor editorial staff, including editors, writers, and multimedia
producers.
– Develop and implement a digital content strategy that aligns with the company’s goals and audience interests.
– Oversee the planning, creation, and publication of digital content, ensuring it meets quality standards and deadlines.
– Analyze audience data and feedback to inform content decisions and strategies.
– Implement initiatives to increase audience engagement and grow digital readership across platforms, including the website, social media, and newsletters.
– Ensure all digital content is accurate, compelling, and adheres to the company’s editorial guidelines.
– Review and approve content, providing constructive feedback to the editorial team
– Collaborate with other teams (TV, Talks, Opinion) inside the Editorial department to guarantee that overall channel’s mission is fulfilled, ensure consistency and to support integrated content strategies.
– Work closely with the technology team to enhance the digital user experience and
implement new content tools and features.
– Stay updated on industry trends and emerging technologies in digital media.
– Experiment with new content formats and distribution channels to enhance the
company’s digital presence.
– Manage special editorial projects and initiatives, ensuring they are completed on time and within budget.
– Coordinate with freelancers and external contributors as needed.

Qualifications:

– Bachelor’s degree in Journalism, Communications, Digital Media, or a related field.
– 8+ years of experience in digital journalism, with at least 2 years in a leadership or
supervisory role.
– Strong editorial judgment and excellent writing and editing skills.
– Proficiency in digital content management systems (CMS) and analytics tools (e.g. Google Analytics).
– Demonstrated ability to grow and engage digital audiences.
– Excellent organizational and project management skills.
– Strong leadership and team management abilities.
– Knowledge of SEO best practices and social media strategies.

Preferred Skills:
– Experience with multimedia content production, including video and podcasts.
– Familiarity with HTML, CSS, and basic web design principles.
– Understanding of data journalism and interactive storytelling techniques.
– Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and adapt to changing priorities.
